Promoting media literacy in schools

November 4, 2010

Here at the Campaign for Body Confidence, we believe that it is important to give young people all the tools they need to form healthy responses to the barrage of media images with which we are all confronted every day – images which we know can be damaging to body confidence.

We want to see media literacy classes delivered as widely as possible to young people throughout the UK, with a specific component on body image.  We recently wrote to the Department of Education on this issue.

We also wrote to Mike Russell, the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning in the Scottish Government.

We will continue to lobby both governments to ensure that these important skills – which ought to be a part of every child’s education – are taught both inside and outside schools.
